Narrative:
Aircraft struck tree on IFR departure approximately 3/4 mi off the end of runway 18. Contributing factors: aircraft rotated late, radar altimeter located where first officer has difficulty reading it, flap handle release button design takes an unnatural hand movement, broke instrument scan in critical phase of flight to locate flap handle and release button to raise flaps.
