Narrative:
In preparation for an IFR departure from dtw to aby (clearance was as filed, climb to 2000 ft, 7000 ft in 10 mins, 132.1, squawk XXXX, to enter controled airspace at 2000 ft with departure from runway 14). However, just before departure, a VFR aircraft landed on runway 32 (unannounced). Seeing this as a safety factor, I chose to depart instead on runway 32. I could not then reach eglin ATC (apparently due to my position on the airport) to inform them of my decision. I then departed on runway 32. I called eglin ATC as soon as I lifted off and informed them of the situation. The controller was not pleased with the situation and instructed me to start an immediate right turn (which I was already doing). I then explained the VFR traffic to the controller. My right turn was completed over airport property and 600 ft MSL in VFR uncontrolled airspace. For safety's sake, I saw no other solution to this situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CE340 CONCERNED WITH DEP TFC CHANGES TKOF RWY HAVING FAILED AN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT DTW PRIOR TO THE ACT.
Narrative: IN PREPARATION FOR AN IFR DEP FROM DTW TO ABY (CLRNC WAS AS FILED, CLB TO 2000 FT, 7000 FT IN 10 MINS, 132.1, SQUAWK XXXX, TO ENTER CTLED AIRSPACE AT 2000 FT WITH DEP FROM RWY 14). HOWEVER, JUST BEFORE DEP, A VFR ACFT LANDED ON RWY 32 (UNANNOUNCED). SEEING THIS AS A SAFETY FACTOR, I CHOSE TO DEPART INSTEAD ON RWY 32. I COULD NOT THEN REACH EGLIN ATC (APPARENTLY DUE TO MY POS ON THE ARPT) TO INFORM THEM OF MY DECISION. I THEN DEPARTED ON RWY 32. I CALLED EGLIN ATC AS SOON AS I LIFTED OFF AND INFORMED THEM OF THE SIT. THE CTLR WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE SIT AND INSTRUCTED ME TO START AN IMMEDIATE R TURN (WHICH I WAS ALREADY DOING). I THEN EXPLAINED THE VFR TFC TO THE CTLR. MY R TURN WAS COMPLETED OVER ARPT PROPERTY AND 600 FT MSL IN VFR UNCTLED AIRSPACE. FOR SAFETY'S SAKE, I SAW NO OTHER SOLUTION TO THIS SIT.
