Second IOE sequence. Due to unfamiliarity of FMA, exceeded altitude clearance limit of FL230 by 300 ft. Autoplt disconnected and altitude was re-established. No comments were noted by ATC and no conflict was apparent. Check airmen thoroughly debriefed situation and provided guidance and instruction on FMA.
