Narrative:

7 mi south of the airport on downwind at 5000 ft for runway 36L, we were cleared for the visual approach after having reported the airport in sight. Approach control pointed out traffic on the parallel runway. We told the controller we did not have traffic in sight at that time. Still being cleared for the visual, we began a descent from 5000 ft to 2600 ft and began our base turn. In the turn, we were switched to tower and shortly thereafter received an RA on TCASII. We followed the command, reported the maneuver to tower, and were issued vectors for another downwind after having informed tower that we were too high to continue the visual for runway 36L. Supplemental information from acn 489049: once the RA was concluded, we were vectored around for another visual approach which was uneventful.

Title: A B727 FLT ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36L PERFORMS A GAR AFTER A TCASII RA ON TFC MAKING A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36R AT TPA, FL.

Narrative: 7 MI S OF THE ARPT ON DOWNWIND AT 5000 FT FOR RWY 36L, WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH AFTER HAVING RPTED THE ARPT IN SIGHT. APCH CTL POINTED OUT TFC ON THE PARALLEL RWY. WE TOLD THE CTLR WE DID NOT HAVE TFC IN SIGHT AT THAT TIME. STILL BEING CLRED FOR THE VISUAL, WE BEGAN A DSCNT FROM 5000 FT TO 2600 FT AND BEGAN OUR BASE TURN. IN THE TURN, WE WERE SWITCHED TO TWR AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER RECEIVED AN RA ON TCASII. WE FOLLOWED THE COMMAND, RPTED THE MANEUVER TO TWR, AND WERE ISSUED VECTORS FOR ANOTHER DOWNWIND AFTER HAVING INFORMED TWR THAT WE WERE TOO HIGH TO CONTINUE THE VISUAL FOR RWY 36L. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 489049: ONCE THE RA WAS CONCLUDED, WE WERE VECTORED AROUND FOR ANOTHER VISUAL APCH WHICH WAS UNEVENTFUL.
