Narrative:
Volume on automatic altitude alert too loud. Very distracting. Close to causing unsafe operation as it drowns out normal conversation. CAT III in cyvr was very difficult. I could not understand first officer when he was giving me critical information.

Title: AN MD-S80 CAPT RPTED THAT HIS AUTO ALT ALERT WAS SO LOUD THAT IT BECAME DANGEROUSLY DISTRACTING DURING A CAT III APCH IN CYVR.
Narrative: VOLUME ON AUTO ALT ALERT TOO LOUD. VERY DISTRACTING. CLOSE TO CAUSING UNSAFE OP AS IT DROWNS OUT NORMAL CONVERSATION. CAT III IN CYVR WAS VERY DIFFICULT. I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND FO WHEN HE WAS GIVING ME CRITICAL INFO.
