Narrative:
On jan/xa/00, I was informed by the FAA that I may have failed to enter a write-up in the aircraft logbook relating to a quick fix utilizing 'speed tape' to secure some loose insulation. This information came to light after a maintenance audit some 4 months after the trip. The letter sent by the FAA was dated more than 6 months after the date of the trip. Concerning the problem, while talking to the mechanic, I asked if the problem should be written up in the logbook and his response was no. That is what I recall more than 6 months later. After reviewing the situation, I realized it should have been entered in the log. I believe the mechanic's statement that it was a quick fix and no need to write it up, convinced me it was ok. In the future, all problems will be entered in the logbook.
