Narrative:
I was flying as co-captain, but on this leg the other pilot was flying from the left seat. I was the PNF in the right seat. As we were taxiing off out of st maarten, tower gave us a full route clearance and at the same time cleared us for takeoff. Not having time to load the whole clearance into the FMS, I put the first 2 legs in the computer and told the PF I would load the rest of the clearance after we were airborne. After departure, approach gave us vectors and told us to climb to 14000 ft. Through 10000 ft, I opened the charts and began putting the rest of our flight plan in the FMS. The PF, instead of watching the aircraft, began to 'help' me with my task. The next thing I knew, ATC was asking for our altitude. We were still in the climb, approaching FL200. Our assigned altitude was 14000 ft. We immediately descended to 14000 ft. The PF should never have divided his attention to my task of plotting our course. By doing this he took himself away from the task of flying the aircraft first.

Title: AIR TAXI CREW BECOMES DISTR WITH FMS PROGRAMMING AND EXCEEDS CLRED ALT BY 6000 FT NEAR ST MAARTEN.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING AS CO-CAPT, BUT ON THIS LEG THE OTHER PLT WAS FLYING FROM THE L SEAT. I WAS THE PNF IN THE R SEAT. AS WE WERE TAXIING OFF OUT OF ST MAARTEN, TWR GAVE US A FULL RTE CLRNC AND AT THE SAME TIME CLRED US FOR TKOF. NOT HAVING TIME TO LOAD THE WHOLE CLRNC INTO THE FMS, I PUT THE FIRST 2 LEGS IN THE COMPUTER AND TOLD THE PF I WOULD LOAD THE REST OF THE CLRNC AFTER WE WERE AIRBORNE. AFTER DEP, APCH GAVE US VECTORS AND TOLD US TO CLB TO 14000 FT. THROUGH 10000 FT, I OPENED THE CHARTS AND BEGAN PUTTING THE REST OF OUR FLT PLAN IN THE FMS. THE PF, INSTEAD OF WATCHING THE ACFT, BEGAN TO 'HELP' ME WITH MY TASK. THE NEXT THING I KNEW, ATC WAS ASKING FOR OUR ALT. WE WERE STILL IN THE CLB, APCHING FL200. OUR ASSIGNED ALT WAS 14000 FT. WE IMMEDIATELY DSNDED TO 14000 FT. THE PF SHOULD NEVER HAVE DIVIDED HIS ATTN TO MY TASK OF PLOTTING OUR COURSE. BY DOING THIS HE TOOK HIMSELF AWAY FROM THE TASK OF FLYING THE ACFT FIRST.
