Narrative:

On takeoff runway 22 from mdw on midway 4 departure we were given a right turn to 090 degrees. After passing 1300 ft, I began a 20-25 degree right bank turn to 090 degrees. Approximately 40-60 degrees into the turn, my first officer switched my navigation to the next frequency. I had thought my turn would keep me inside the 4 DME restr, but departure asked me to tighten up my turn as I had exceeded the 4 DME arc. 2 aircraft immediately behind me also exceeded the restr. I did not notice the winds aloft, but they must have been such to have a negative impact on our turn radius. Lesson learned: keep the appropriate NAVAID tuned and monitor until all restrs are made.

Title: ACR EXCEEDS MILEAGE RESTR IN TURN DURING MDW 4 DEP.

Narrative: ON TKOF RWY 22 FROM MDW ON MIDWAY 4 DEP WE WERE GIVEN A R TURN TO 090 DEGS. AFTER PASSING 1300 FT, I BEGAN A 20-25 DEG R BANK TURN TO 090 DEGS. APPROX 40-60 DEGS INTO THE TURN, MY FO SWITCHED MY NAV TO THE NEXT FREQ. I HAD THOUGHT MY TURN WOULD KEEP ME INSIDE THE 4 DME RESTR, BUT DEP ASKED ME TO TIGHTEN UP MY TURN AS I HAD EXCEEDED THE 4 DME ARC. 2 ACFT IMMEDIATELY BEHIND ME ALSO EXCEEDED THE RESTR. I DID NOT NOTICE THE WINDS ALOFT, BUT THEY MUST HAVE BEEN SUCH TO HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON OUR TURN RADIUS. LESSON LEARNED: KEEP THE APPROPRIATE NAVAID TUNED AND MONITOR UNTIL ALL RESTRS ARE MADE.
