Narrative:
On jan/mon/00, the crew boarded our aircraft at XA30 am at the fort lauderdale airport. The airplane was 1/2 hour late to arrive. Working diligently we began to accomplish our preflight. Part of my job was to get the pre-departure (pre departure clearance) clearance via the ACARS. I correctly typed in our flight number which was abcd. I received the clearance over the ACARS and continued with my preflight and setting up my navaids for the departure. Being a little rushed I did not completely compare the pre departure clearance with our hard copy flight plan. As it turns out the company flight next to us was also preparing for departure and their flight number was abde. Since the first few fixes on the pre departure clearance matched our hard copy I assumed it was the correct clearance. After we accomplished our checklist we were cleared for takeoff and tower correctly called us air carrier flight abcd. When we checked in with departure control he called us air carrier flight abde. After a bit of hesitation departure control told us to squawk a different number. We went back to our pre departure clearance and realized we received the clearance for company abde. After we set the different squawk code nothing else was said. The bottom line is to check the entire pre departure clearance with the flight plan release.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737 FO RECEIVED THE WRONG PRE-DEP CLRNC, AND SET THE INCORRECT XPONDER CODE.
Narrative: ON JAN/MON/00, THE CREW BOARDED OUR ACFT AT XA30 AM AT THE FORT LAUDERDALE ARPT. THE AIRPLANE WAS 1/2 HR LATE TO ARRIVE. WORKING DILIGENTLY WE BEGAN TO ACCOMPLISH OUR PREFLT. PART OF MY JOB WAS TO GET THE PRE-DEP (PDC) CLRNC VIA THE ACARS. I CORRECTLY TYPED IN OUR FLT NUMBER WHICH WAS ABCD. I RECEIVED THE CLRNC OVER THE ACARS AND CONTINUED WITH MY PREFLT AND SETTING UP MY NAVAIDS FOR THE DEP. BEING A LITTLE RUSHED I DID NOT COMPLETELY COMPARE THE PDC WITH OUR HARD COPY FLT PLAN. AS IT TURNS OUT THE COMPANY FLT NEXT TO US WAS ALSO PREPARING FOR DEP AND THEIR FLT NUMBER WAS ABDE. SINCE THE FIRST FEW FIXES ON THE PDC MATCHED OUR HARD COPY I ASSUMED IT WAS THE CORRECT CLRNC. AFTER WE ACCOMPLISHED OUR CHKLIST WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF AND TWR CORRECTLY CALLED US ACR FLT ABCD. WHEN WE CHKED IN WITH DEP CTL HE CALLED US ACR FLT ABDE. AFTER A BIT OF HESITATION DEP CTL TOLD US TO SQUAWK A DIFFERENT NUMBER. WE WENT BACK TO OUR PDC AND REALIZED WE RECEIVED THE CLRNC FOR COMPANY ABDE. AFTER WE SET THE DIFFERENT SQUAWK CODE NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. THE BOTTOM LINE IS TO CHK THE ENTIRE PDC WITH THE FLT PLAN RELEASE.
