Narrative:
On pdz.PDZ3 arrival to lax we crossed konzl at 17000 ft. We were given a different runway. Entering new runway all waypoints were dropped and missed crossing restr at trtle intersection. By the time we re-entered pdz arrival we were past trtle intersection. Supplemental information from acn 460700: on pdz arrival into lax we crossed konzl at 17000 ft then got a runway change, frequency change. Put new runway in FMS and it dumped all the waypoints causing us to miss crossing restr of 16000 ft at trtle. Preoccupied with FMC, runway assignment change, frequency change, FMS dump simultaneously, not good CRM, and needed to have VOR back up. Lax is very demanding on STAR because ATC sometimes takes numerous STAR and runway changes.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 CREW DID NOT COMPLY WITH THE PUBLISHED XING ALT ON THE PDZ 3 INTO LAX.
Narrative: ON PDZ.PDZ3 ARR TO LAX WE CROSSED KONZL AT 17000 FT. WE WERE GIVEN A DIFFERENT RWY. ENTERING NEW RWY ALL WAYPOINTS WERE DROPPED AND MISSED XING RESTR AT TRTLE INTXN. BY THE TIME WE RE-ENTERED PDZ ARR WE WERE PAST TRTLE INTXN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 460700: ON PDZ ARR INTO LAX WE CROSSED KONZL AT 17000 FT THEN GOT A RWY CHANGE, FREQ CHANGE. PUT NEW RWY IN FMS AND IT DUMPED ALL THE WAYPOINTS CAUSING US TO MISS XING RESTR OF 16000 FT AT TRTLE. PREOCCUPIED WITH FMC, RWY ASSIGNMENT CHANGE, FREQ CHANGE, FMS DUMP SIMULTANEOUSLY, NOT GOOD CRM, AND NEEDED TO HAVE VOR BACK UP. LAX IS VERY DEMANDING ON STAR BECAUSE ATC SOMETIMES TAKES NUMEROUS STAR AND RWY CHANGES.
