Clearance to 3000 ft on takeoff. Flew through 3000 ft to 3800 ft due to distraction. Returned rapidly to 3000 ft. Controller questioned altitude. We informed him that we had the situation under control. Nothing more was said. No other aircraft were noted in the vicinity.
