Narrative:
During pushback and left engine start, N2 stagnated at 45. Captain followed procedure and advanced throttle to 65 N2. Engine accelerated slowly. At the same time, ground control called to give alternate pushback clearance. I became distraction trying to understand the mexican ground controller and did not realize that the left throttle was still advanced. Apparently, excessive power may have been a factor in the breaking of the tow bar nose pin.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD SUPER 80 DURING PUSHBACK AND L ENG START THE ENG WAS SLOW TO ACCELERATE AND THRUST LEVER WAS ADVANCED PER PROCS. EXCESSIVE PWR BROKE THE NOSE GEAR TOW BAR NOSE PIN.
Narrative: DURING PUSHBACK AND L ENG START, N2 STAGNATED AT 45. CAPT FOLLOWED PROC AND ADVANCED THROTTLE TO 65 N2. ENG ACCELERATED SLOWLY. AT THE SAME TIME, GND CTL CALLED TO GIVE ALTERNATE PUSHBACK CLRNC. I BECAME DISTR TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE MEXICAN GND CTLR AND DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE L THROTTLE WAS STILL ADVANCED. APPARENTLY, EXCESSIVE PWR MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR IN THE BREAKING OF THE TOW BAR NOSE PIN.
