Narrative:

On initial climb out for high altitude en route leg, cleared direct lakeland, lal, climb to FL230. Passing FL220, controller gave 'right turn 300 degree heading.' both pilot and copilot began to adjust heading bug to new heading, then both recognized conflict and stopped with acknowledgment on intercom. As pilot began to set 300 degree heading, copilot called '230.' pilot immediately initiated leveloff, but high climb rate resulted in maximum altitude of FL240. Distraction diverted attention to heading bug caused the pilot to miss leveloff at assigned altitude. ZMA radio call and subsequent intercom call blocked the aircraft automatic altitude voice warnings at 1000 ft prior and at assigned altitude.
