Narrative:
Location: cyyc/20 DME. 132 degree radial to yyc VOR, not certain of distance from fix, but inside of vucan. Approach control stated we were slightly left of course. CDI was centered on correct course to correct VOR yyc. Approach control gave us a 10 degree heading change to the right due possible traffic. Very shortly after, approach control gave us a vector further right. As we started this turn, the CDI broke loose and showed us about 3 degrees left of course. This event was shortly after the 10000 ft chime. Could have had interference from some electronic device from the cabin. Continued with vectors for remainder of arrival to uneventful landing. We checked our navaids 2 times after approach controller initially advised us. We thought we were right on course.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN S80 PIC'S RPT ON A TRACK DEV POSSIBLY CAUSED BY A PAX PED DEVICE CREATING ELECTRONIC MAGNETIC INTERFERENCE (EMI) WHILE 20 NM FROM CYYZ, ON.
Narrative: LOCATION: CYYC/20 DME. 132 DEG RADIAL TO YYC VOR, NOT CERTAIN OF DISTANCE FROM FIX, BUT INSIDE OF VUCAN. APCH CTL STATED WE WERE SLIGHTLY L OF COURSE. CDI WAS CTRED ON CORRECT COURSE TO CORRECT VOR YYC. APCH CTL GAVE US A 10 DEG HDG CHANGE TO THE R DUE POSSIBLE TFC. VERY SHORTLY AFTER, APCH CTL GAVE US A VECTOR FURTHER R. AS WE STARTED THIS TURN, THE CDI BROKE LOOSE AND SHOWED US ABOUT 3 DEGS L OF COURSE. THIS EVENT WAS SHORTLY AFTER THE 10000 FT CHIME. COULD HAVE HAD INTERFERENCE FROM SOME ELECTRONIC DEVICE FROM THE CABIN. CONTINUED WITH VECTORS FOR REMAINDER OF ARR TO UNEVENTFUL LNDG. WE CHKED OUR NAVAIDS 2 TIMES AFTER APCH CTLR INITIALLY ADVISED US. WE THOUGHT WE WERE RIGHT ON COURSE.
