Narrative:
While level at assigned cruise altitude FL350, we heard ZTL issue several 'immediate' heading and altitude changes to several aircraft. Moments later, we were given an immediate left turn to 180 degrees (90 degree heading change) and climb to FL360 and if able FL370. The captain banked the aircraft approximately 45 degrees of bank (buffet encountered) and began a climb. At the time I was reading back the clearance, I got a visual on the aircraft (air carrier B747) and we were turning clear of the traffic. We received a TA on the TCASII but no RA. At FL365, I told center we didn't think we could make FL370 and they said to maintain FL360 and they would have a turn on course shortly. Once ZTL had the conflict under control we asked for a phone number so we could find out later what had happened. Center controller assumed responsibility for the situation. Apparently one of the aircraft involved had not done what the center controller had expected.

Title: TFC CONFLICT NEAR KNOXVILLE, TN, IN CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WHILE LEVEL AT ASSIGNED CRUISE ALT FL350, WE HEARD ZTL ISSUE SEVERAL 'IMMEDIATE' HDG AND ALT CHANGES TO SEVERAL ACFT. MOMENTS LATER, WE WERE GIVEN AN IMMEDIATE L TURN TO 180 DEGS (90 DEG HDG CHANGE) AND CLB TO FL360 AND IF ABLE FL370. THE CAPT BANKED THE ACFT APPROX 45 DEGS OF BANK (BUFFET ENCOUNTERED) AND BEGAN A CLB. AT THE TIME I WAS READING BACK THE CLRNC, I GOT A VISUAL ON THE ACFT (ACR B747) AND WE WERE TURNING CLR OF THE TFC. WE RECEIVED A TA ON THE TCASII BUT NO RA. AT FL365, I TOLD CTR WE DIDN'T THINK WE COULD MAKE FL370 AND THEY SAID TO MAINTAIN FL360 AND THEY WOULD HAVE A TURN ON COURSE SHORTLY. ONCE ZTL HAD THE CONFLICT UNDER CTL WE ASKED FOR A PHONE NUMBER SO WE COULD FIND OUT LATER WHAT HAD HAPPENED. CTR CTLR ASSUMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SIT. APPARENTLY ONE OF THE ACFT INVOLVED HAD NOT DONE WHAT THE CTR CTLR HAD EXPECTED.
