Narrative:
Ramp control gave us taxi instructions to spot X and to contact ground control 121.9 at that point. Approaching spot X I tried to contact ground 3 or 4 times. This captain continued to taxi past spot X and joined the line up for departures on taxiway. He continued to try to contact ground control on his radio and finally did after we had taxied to intersection. Ground asked if we had just taxied on our own and the captain replied, 'yes.' no other communication with ATC regarding this event followed.
