Narrative:

Gear was not extended for landing. After 2 hours of intense multi-engine training, the instructor asked to do a landing in the aircraft. Needing a break, I agreed and xferred control of the aircraft to him. I then began to relax and enjoy the view. I thought everything was well until hearing the scraping noise which brought my attention back into the cockpit. I should not have allowed myself to relax, even though the instructor was flying the aircraft. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter said the PF routinely used the gumps check as many people do, but in this case must not have. The reporter indicated that he had taken himself out of the loop because of the strenuous workout he had been given by the instructor over the course of the lesson. It was determined later that the instructor had been able to obtain only 3 hours sleep the night before because of his work schedule at a secondary employment.
