Narrative:
Ground cleared me to taxi runway 22 on taxiway D. I was unfamiliar with the airport and referred to my airport diagram, which indicated a leg of some distance from taxiway D to runway 22. My intent was to taxi onto this leg and hold at the line and then contact tower. I did not see the hold short line because I was not expecting it. I believe this leg does not exist. When I saw the taxiway D converging to the runway I stopped. I estimate I stopped 1/2 way between the hold short line and the runway. Factors: unfamiliarity with airport, taxiway not as charted.

Title: PLT SURPRISED BY LOCATION OF HOLD SHORT LINE AT ROC, NY, WHEN ARPT CHART AND TXWY LAYOUT DON'T APPEAR TO MATCH. STOP WAS NOT MADE BEFORE PASSING OVER THE LINE.
Narrative: GND CLRED ME TO TAXI RWY 22 ON TXWY D. I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND REFERRED TO MY ARPT DIAGRAM, WHICH INDICATED A LEG OF SOME DISTANCE FROM TXWY D TO RWY 22. MY INTENT WAS TO TAXI ONTO THIS LEG AND HOLD AT THE LINE AND THEN CONTACT TWR. I DID NOT SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINE BECAUSE I WAS NOT EXPECTING IT. I BELIEVE THIS LEG DOES NOT EXIST. WHEN I SAW THE TXWY D CONVERGING TO THE RWY I STOPPED. I ESTIMATE I STOPPED 1/2 WAY BTWN THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND THE RWY. FACTORS: UNFAMILIARITY WITH ARPT, TXWY NOT AS CHARTED.
