Narrative:
While making the final turn in to the gate, there was a ramp vehicle which caught my eye at the bottom of my left window. This pickup truck was certainly traveling at a high rate of speed and came so close to my aircraft that I was only able to see the top of the truck at the bottom of my window. Any closer and he would have been too close to see, out of view from my perspective. His speed was so fast in fact that we were not even able to get an identify of the vehicle. This is a problem which seems to be on the increase at dfw. A solution to this problem could be to have large identing numbers on the vehicles for reporting purposes. Although no incident occurred, quick reaction and stopping of the aircraft was necessary.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B767 PIC RPT OF UNIDENTED SPDING VEHICULAR TFC ON THE RAMP CREATING A TFC HAZARD AT DFW, TX.
Narrative: WHILE MAKING THE FINAL TURN IN TO THE GATE, THERE WAS A RAMP VEHICLE WHICH CAUGHT MY EYE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY L WINDOW. THIS PICKUP TRUCK WAS CERTAINLY TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPD AND CAME SO CLOSE TO MY ACFT THAT I WAS ONLY ABLE TO SEE THE TOP OF THE TRUCK AT THE BOTTOM OF MY WINDOW. ANY CLOSER AND HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO CLOSE TO SEE, OUT OF VIEW FROM MY PERSPECTIVE. HIS SPD WAS SO FAST IN FACT THAT WE WERE NOT EVEN ABLE TO GET AN IDENT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A PROB WHICH SEEMS TO BE ON THE INCREASE AT DFW. A SOLUTION TO THIS PROB COULD BE TO HAVE LARGE IDENTING NUMBERS ON THE VEHICLES FOR RPTING PURPOSES. ALTHOUGH NO INCIDENT OCCURRED, QUICK REACTION AND STOPPING OF THE ACFT WAS NECESSARY.
