Narrative:
We requested pushback clearance from ground. Push clearance received from ground and pushed straight back out of gate and rotated 90 degrees, pointing aircraft in correct direction to taxi. Aircraft in gate next to us requested push, received push clearance from ground and nearly impacted us. Their wing walkers and tug driver never saw us. Wing walker was looking in opposite direction to the push. We were forced to break in on ground control frequency to stop the push of the other aircraft. Estimated distance from our left wing to his tail was less than 30 ft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757 JUST PARKED AFTER PUSHBACK WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER COMPANY ACFT, AN A320, ON THEIR PUSHBACK FROM THE ADJOINING GATE AT MSP, MN.
Narrative: WE REQUESTED PUSHBACK CLRNC FROM GND. PUSH CLRNC RECEIVED FROM GND AND PUSHED STRAIGHT BACK OUT OF GATE AND ROTATED 90 DEGS, POINTING ACFT IN CORRECT DIRECTION TO TAXI. ACFT IN GATE NEXT TO US REQUESTED PUSH, RECEIVED PUSH CLRNC FROM GND AND NEARLY IMPACTED US. THEIR WING WALKERS AND TUG DRIVER NEVER SAW US. WING WALKER WAS LOOKING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO THE PUSH. WE WERE FORCED TO BREAK IN ON GND CTL FREQ TO STOP THE PUSH OF THE OTHER ACFT. ESTIMATED DISTANCE FROM OUR L WING TO HIS TAIL WAS LESS THAN 30 FT.
