Narrative:
Inbound to dfw on assigned heading. Told to expect ILS runway 31R, then told to expect stadium visual. Continued to fly the assigned heading of 300 degrees which never would have joined the localizer (bad heading from ATC.) ATC then seemed confused that we were not on localizer. Issued a new heading and told to report stadium and descend to 3000 ft. I was trying to point out the stadium to the captain, who was hand flying aircraft. Stadium was close under nose and, as he attempted to look over nose to see, slowly drifted up from 5000 ft. We saw the deviation and began a descent to 3000 ft. ATC queried us about our altitude, which went to 5400 ft. Completed the approach with no other problems. Contributing factors: obviously, we failed to properly monitor altitude and conflicting and/or erroneous instructions from ATC, and fatigue after all-night flight.

Title: A B767 FO, PNF, ON STADIUM APCH TO DFW, RPTED THAT THE CAPT OVERSHOT THE ASSIGNED ALT WHILE TRYING TO IDENT THE STADIUM.
Narrative: INBOUND TO DFW ON ASSIGNED HDG. TOLD TO EXPECT ILS RWY 31R, THEN TOLD TO EXPECT STADIUM VISUAL. CONTINUED TO FLY THE ASSIGNED HDG OF 300 DEGS WHICH NEVER WOULD HAVE JOINED THE LOC (BAD HDG FROM ATC.) ATC THEN SEEMED CONFUSED THAT WE WERE NOT ON LOC. ISSUED A NEW HDG AND TOLD TO RPT STADIUM AND DSND TO 3000 FT. I WAS TRYING TO POINT OUT THE STADIUM TO THE CAPT, WHO WAS HAND FLYING ACFT. STADIUM WAS CLOSE UNDER NOSE AND, AS HE ATTEMPTED TO LOOK OVER NOSE TO SEE, SLOWLY DRIFTED UP FROM 5000 FT. WE SAW THE DEV AND BEGAN A DSCNT TO 3000 FT. ATC QUERIED US ABOUT OUR ALT, WHICH WENT TO 5400 FT. COMPLETED THE APCH WITH NO OTHER PROBS. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: OBVIOUSLY, WE FAILED TO PROPERLY MONITOR ALT AND CONFLICTING AND/OR ERRONEOUS INSTRUCTIONS FROM ATC, AND FATIGUE AFTER ALL-NIGHT FLT.
