Narrative:
While approaching fdk for club fly-in, ran auxiliary fuel tank dry, resulting in total loss of power. Remedial actions (switching to main tank with fuel, etc) failed to restore power. Declared emergency and was cleared direct fdk. Unable to make fdk and set up for forced landing in open field. Power was restored on short final at 500 ft AGL. Proceeded to fdk after canceling emergency and landed without further incident.
