Narrative:

We requested a climb from ZDV in the vicinity of blue mesa. ZDV approved our climb from FL290 to FL330. Approaching FL300, I noticed a TCASII target at our 11 O'clock position at FL310 and approximately 12 mi. Range was decreasing and bearing was remaining constant. I advised the captain and he inquired ZDV about the traffic. ZDV immediately gave us a 40-50 degree right heading change. At the same time, we also received a TA followed by an RA. The other air carrier mentioned to center that they also had received an RA advisory. I should have done a better job of following the advisory. There was a lot of things happening with the immediate heading change, going from a climb to a descent, watching the TCASII target, trying to acquire the other aircraft visually, monitor speed, and listen to the radio. ZDV said we shouldn't have gotten that close. He thought we were going to have 10 mi separation.
