Narrative:
After takeoff, left main landing gear would not retract. Landing gear was cycled and left main gear retracted fully. Maintenance operations (company) was contacted and requested that flight return to departure airport (mco). This particular aircraft had the same problem the previous day and was returned to service. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft had previous reports on left main gear failure to retract and was worked overnight at ZZZ. The reporter said the aircraft was jacked and the gear swung and operated normally. The reporter stated the positive fix was a left landing gear proximity sensor which failed in the ground mode.

Title: AN EMBRAER 120 ON INITIAL CLB AT 400 FT AGL DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO UNABLE TO RETRACT THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR CAUSED BY A FAILED PROX SENSOR.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF, L MAIN LNDG GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT. LNDG GEAR WAS CYCLED AND L MAIN GEAR RETRACTED FULLY. MAINT OPS (COMPANY) WAS CONTACTED AND REQUESTED THAT FLT RETURN TO DEP ARPT (MCO). THIS PARTICULAR ACFT HAD THE SAME PROB THE PREVIOUS DAY AND WAS RETURNED TO SVC. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT HAD PREVIOUS RPTS ON L MAIN GEAR FAILURE TO RETRACT AND WAS WORKED OVERNIGHT AT ZZZ. THE RPTR SAID THE ACFT WAS JACKED AND THE GEAR SWUNG AND OPERATED NORMALLY. THE RPTR STATED THE POSITIVE FIX WAS A L LNDG GEAR PROX SENSOR WHICH FAILED IN THE GND MODE.
