Narrative:
Vectored to join ILS runway 19R at dulles at 5000 ft we temporarily lost contact with approach control. I called tower with no contact. Then ground control, who I spoke with, he cleared us for the visual approach. I called TRACON after landing at their request. I explained my theory that our radio channel selector was displaying the wrong frequency and the radio transmitting slightly out of phase. We ran a complete check on the system but it showed no error on the ground.
