Narrative:
At FL390 left engine vibration went from .1 to 1.7 with a surge sound associated with the vibration. Seconds later aircraft lost left hydraulic system with associated lights. Turned towards den advised ATC of situation, declared emergency. Followed communication procedures. Lost all autoplts. Used alternate flaps and gear extension. Uneventful landing. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that just prior to the engine hydraulic pump failing the engine vibrated and the engine vibration indicator went from .1 to 1.7. The reporter said the vibration was felt in the cockpit.

Title: A B757-200 IN CRUISE AT FL390 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO LOSS OF L HYD SYS CAUSED BY L ENG DRIVEN PUMP FAILURE.
Narrative: AT FL390 L ENG VIBRATION WENT FROM .1 TO 1.7 WITH A SURGE SOUND ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIBRATION. SECONDS LATER ACFT LOST L HYD SYS WITH ASSOCIATED LIGHTS.
