Narrative:

On jul/xa/00 at las on taxi for takeoff we got a rerte to phl which may have caused a fuel problem per FARS. The problem was the time was limited just prior to takeoff. We didn't get an amended dispatch release before takeoff because of communications between the company and ATC was not clear, or we didn't have it. Anyway, we took off and resolved the situation by diverting to dfw for additional fuel, which due to the extent of the rerte was necessary per the far. We were according to dispatch 1500-2000 pounds short. This was due to the need for an alternate airport because of the change in forecast just prior to takeoff. This problem was discovered by our chief pilot. The problem arose by ATC making a major change at the last min prior to takeoff, and not having enough time to make a decision to return and not have to get fuel somewhere else.
