Narrative:
I was cleared into position to hold on runway 35L at dfw. 2 MD80's were crossed at taxiway el from east to west. After their crossing, I was cleared for takeoff. The runway appeared clear with the 2 MD80's holding on taxiway el between the runway and the parallel taxiway (I believe the taxiway is designated 'left'). As my takeoff approached the intersection of taxiway el, I simultaneously started my rotation, and realized that the last MD80's tail was extending across the runway hold line causing a runway encroachment. As my wingtip does not extend beyond the runway edge, I felt evasive action was unnecessary. I overflew the intersection at an estimated 50 ft AGL and noted that the MD80's tail was approximately 20 ft across the hold line. Other than flying through his jetblast, the remainder of the takeoff was normal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: L1011 PLT DEPARTING DFW ON ROTATION OBSERVES AN MD80 ENCROACHING THE RWY.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED INTO POS TO HOLD ON RWY 35L AT DFW. 2 MD80'S WERE CROSSED AT TXWY EL FROM E TO W. AFTER THEIR XING, I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. THE RWY APPEARED CLR WITH THE 2 MD80'S HOLDING ON TXWY EL BTWN THE RWY AND THE PARALLEL TXWY (I BELIEVE THE TXWY IS DESIGNATED 'L'). AS MY TKOF APCHED THE INTXN OF TXWY EL, I SIMULTANEOUSLY STARTED MY ROTATION, AND REALIZED THAT THE LAST MD80'S TAIL WAS EXTENDING ACROSS THE RWY HOLD LINE CAUSING A RWY ENCROACHMENT. AS MY WINGTIP DOES NOT EXTEND BEYOND THE RWY EDGE, I FELT EVASIVE ACTION WAS UNNECESSARY. I OVERFLEW THE INTXN AT AN ESTIMATED 50 FT AGL AND NOTED THAT THE MD80'S TAIL WAS APPROX 20 FT ACROSS THE HOLD LINE. OTHER THAN FLYING THROUGH HIS JETBLAST, THE REMAINDER OF THE TKOF WAS NORMAL.
