Narrative:
Under control of new york approach (128.8) at 10000 ft, controller advised us of traffic at 1 O'clock position at 9500 ft. Shortly thereafter, TCASII gave us a 'traffic' alert followed by a 'climb' RA. We climbed to 10850 ft while reporting the RA and climb to ATC. TCASII then gave 'monitor vertical speed' followed by 'clear of conflict.' we returned to 10000 ft as soon as possible and notified ATC we were back to 10000 ft.
