Narrative:
During preflight, both the first officer and myself (captain) did check the aircraft logbook for discrepancies. Could not find anything and the aircraft to airworthy for the flight. While en route the first officer found an open write-up on the last page which for some reason that page was adhered or attached to the previous page. (Write-up: rear right passenger bin does not lock.) we called maintenance and found that maintenance was performed, but did not complete the entry in the logbook. In order to prevent a recurrence of this situation, a policy should be implemented to require maintenance personnel to contact the flight crew (in person, if possible) anytime maintenance is performed in the aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737 CREW MISSED AN OPEN LOG ITEM ON INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE ACFT.
Narrative: DURING PREFLT, BOTH THE FO AND MYSELF (CAPT) DID CHK THE ACFT LOGBOOK FOR DISCREPANCIES. COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING AND THE ACFT TO AIRWORTHY FOR THE FLT. WHILE ENRTE THE FO FOUND AN OPEN WRITE-UP ON THE LAST PAGE WHICH FOR SOME REASON THAT PAGE WAS ADHERED OR ATTACHED TO THE PREVIOUS PAGE. (WRITE-UP: REAR R PAX BIN DOES NOT LOCK.) WE CALLED MAINT AND FOUND THAT MAINT WAS PERFORMED, BUT DID NOT COMPLETE THE ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK. IN ORDER TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE OF THIS SIT, A POLICY SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO REQUIRE MAINT PERSONNEL TO CONTACT THE FLC (IN PERSON, IF POSSIBLE) ANYTIME MAINT IS PERFORMED IN THE ACFT.
