Narrative:
Taxi in to gate at egbb. Normally controled by 'accupark' light system. Approach to gate and it appeared that the system was operating as all marshallers were in their assigned position. I approached at an extremely slow speed, as I was awaiting the lights to go from green to yellow to red. When it was apparent that the lights were not working, I tried to stop the aircraft. The left engine struck the jetway. The damage to the cowl was minor and the aircraft was put in service and departed egbb on schedule.
