Narrative:
Landed runway 4R, used full length and turned off at taxiway D. On initial contact with ground control were told that we had been instructed to turn off the runway at taxiway Q because of close following landing aircraft. Captain and first officer did not hear instructions to turn off the runway early.

Title: MD80 CREW DID NOT EXIT RWY 4R IN ORD WHERE THE CTLR EXPECTED.
Narrative: LANDED RWY 4R, USED FULL LENGTH AND TURNED OFF AT TXWY D. ON INITIAL CONTACT WITH GND CTL WERE TOLD THAT WE HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO TURN OFF THE RWY AT TXWY Q BECAUSE OF CLOSE FOLLOWING LNDG ACFT. CAPT AND FO DID NOT HEAR INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN OFF THE RWY EARLY.
