Narrative:
Taxied to runway 4R bos. WX overcast using runways 4L/right and 9. When #1 for takeoff bos tower told us position and hold thinking landing on crossing runway, tower did not correct themselves. Leaving hold short line prior to runway edge we saw lights break through clouds headed our way. I stopped prior to runway edge and asked for clarification. A different voice from tower asked if we were on runway 4R and I told him that we were holding short of edge. Tower informed landing aircraft of our position and gave him landing clearance. Tower later gave us clearance for position and then uneventful takeoff.

Title: AN ACR FLC FLYING A B757 AT BOS RPTS RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS FROM ATC TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON A RWY THAT HAD ANOTHER ACR ON SHORT FINAL IN IMC.
Narrative: TAXIED TO RWY 4R BOS. WX OVCST USING RWYS 4L/R AND 9. WHEN #1 FOR TKOF BOS TWR TOLD US POS AND HOLD THINKING LNDG ON XING RWY, TWR DID NOT CORRECT THEMSELVES. LEAVING HOLD SHORT LINE PRIOR TO RWY EDGE WE SAW LIGHTS BREAK THROUGH CLOUDS HEADED OUR WAY. I STOPPED PRIOR TO RWY EDGE AND ASKED FOR CLARIFICATION. A DIFFERENT VOICE FROM TWR ASKED IF WE WERE ON RWY 4R AND I TOLD HIM THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF EDGE. TWR INFORMED LNDG ACFT OF OUR POS AND GAVE HIM LNDG CLRNC. TWR LATER GAVE US CLRNC FOR POS AND THEN UNEVENTFUL TKOF.
