Narrative:

ATC facility: dfw tower control. Location: taxiway er. While holding short of runway 17C at the VFR hold short line, we received clearance to cross runway 17C, which we responded to. At that point I said, 'that's strange he did not say hold short of runway 17R.' which we were going to do anyway. I looked down runway 17C as crossing and saw aircraft at a slow speed exiting the runway way down. As we exited the runway tower said, 'did you hear me X amount of times asking you to expedite?' we said 'no.' I looked down the runway again to see another commuter crossing runway 17C towards the departure end. ATC then continued to lecture, while crossing. If there is a need for a quicker than normal crossing ATC needs to give this in the initial clearance, so we can say yes or no. If an operational error occurred I would certainly like to know what it was, so I can learn from it for the future.

Title: AN S80 FLC GETS CHASTISED BY THE TWR CTLR WHEN ATC FELT THAT THE CREW TOOK TOO LONG TO CROSS RWY 17C WITH TFC ON ROLLOUT AT DFW, TX.

Narrative: ATC FACILITY: DFW TWR CTL. LOCATION: TXWY ER. WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 17C AT THE VFR HOLD SHORT LINE, WE RECEIVED CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 17C, WHICH WE RESPONDED TO. AT THAT POINT I SAID, 'THAT'S STRANGE HE DID NOT SAY HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17R.' WHICH WE WERE GOING TO DO ANYWAY. I LOOKED DOWN RWY 17C AS XING AND SAW ACFT AT A SLOW SPD EXITING THE RWY WAY DOWN. AS WE EXITED THE RWY TWR SAID, 'DID YOU HEAR ME X AMOUNT OF TIMES ASKING YOU TO EXPEDITE?' WE SAID 'NO.' I LOOKED DOWN THE RWY AGAIN TO SEE ANOTHER COMMUTER XING RWY 17C TOWARDS THE DEP END. ATC THEN CONTINUED TO LECTURE, WHILE XING. IF THERE IS A NEED FOR A QUICKER THAN NORMAL XING ATC NEEDS TO GIVE THIS IN THE INITIAL CLRNC, SO WE CAN SAY YES OR NO. IF AN OPERROR OCCURRED I WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS, SO I CAN LEARN FROM IT FOR THE FUTURE.
