Narrative:

In looking back at yesterday's flying original sequence we noticed that we had 8.07 hours of block time. Flight ewr to dfw had a 41 min delay due to WX and first flight attendant had a 2 min delay. We were scheduled to fly dfw-elp with a block of 1 hour 44 mins. When we left on that leg, we were unaware that our 8 hour limit would be exceeded by 1 min. The takeoff delay due to traffic caused an additional 6 mins to be added to our overflt of the 8 hour rule. Lesson learned: watch the daily block time between legs.
