Narrative:

First officer was flying and had rwf VOR set for navigation. I had misread STAR and instead of 111.8 for fcm, I had set 111.2. A crossing restr of 11000 ft at shonn (31 DME from fcm) was issued. Unfortunately 111.2 is in the vicinity and had a similar DME as fcm. So, we were still about 800 ft high at proper intersection. First officer could've used DME off rwf to xchk altitude/distance. I should have tuned and idented fcm. I also should've been xchking both vors/DME for altitude crossing. Supplemental information from acn 485110: during descent on sketr 2 arrival. Cleared to shonn at 11000 ft. Captain inadvertently tuned to fgt (115.7), after computing descent rate and starting down. Looked at captain's DME for 31 NM fix. Adjusted descent rate, then at 44 NM (rwf) on my side, I realized my error. I should have kept calculations off my side (navigation side) and tuned, idented, monitored, and backed up the captain, and questioned DME discrepancy.

Title: A DC9 CREW RPTED THAT THE CAPT HAD SET THE WRONG VOR FREQ WHICH CAUSED THE FLT TO CROSS THE PROPER INTXN AT THE WRONG ALT.

Narrative: FO WAS FLYING AND HAD RWF VOR SET FOR NAV. I HAD MISREAD STAR AND INSTEAD OF 111.8 FOR FCM, I HAD SET 111.2. A XING RESTR OF 11000 FT AT SHONN (31 DME FROM FCM) WAS ISSUED. UNFORTUNATELY 111.2 IS IN THE VICINITY AND HAD A SIMILAR DME AS FCM. SO, WE WERE STILL ABOUT 800 FT HIGH AT PROPER INTXN. FO COULD'VE USED DME OFF RWF TO XCHK ALT/DISTANCE. I SHOULD HAVE TUNED AND IDENTED FCM. I ALSO SHOULD'VE BEEN XCHKING BOTH VORS/DME FOR ALT XING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 485110: DURING DSCNT ON SKETR 2 ARR. CLRED TO SHONN AT 11000 FT. CAPT INADVERTENTLY TUNED TO FGT (115.7), AFTER COMPUTING DSCNT RATE AND STARTING DOWN. LOOKED AT CAPT'S DME FOR 31 NM FIX. ADJUSTED DSCNT RATE, THEN AT 44 NM (RWF) ON MY SIDE, I REALIZED MY ERROR. I SHOULD HAVE KEPT CALCULATIONS OFF MY SIDE (NAV SIDE) AND TUNED, IDENTED, MONITORED, AND BACKED UP THE CAPT, AND QUESTIONED DME DISCREPANCY.
