Narrative:
Lax 3 departure runway 25R. Assigned altitude 3000 ft. First officer flying. Climbing through 2000 ft MSL, first officer engages 'command B' autoplt. Autoplt shows 'altitude acquire' but I noticed minimal pitch change as we approached 3000 ft MSL. As we passed through 3000 ft, I applied pressure to yoke and called attention to first officer. Together, we arrested climb at approximately 3150 ft MSL. About that time, ATC called to remind me of the altitude restr. I acknowledged and we promptly returned to 3000 ft MSL.
