Narrative:

After holding short of runway 12R on runway 6 at stl, we were instructed to taxi across runway 12R without delay. After crossing, captain was distraction by departure aircraft (an aircraft taxiing on taxiway C next to us). After I pointed out hold short signs that we were rapidly approaching, he stopped the aircraft with approximately 5-10 ft of aircraft past his line. Tower then instructed us to cross runway 12L and make 180 degree turn and hold short, which we did. We were then instructed to call on ground back at dtw. One of the contributing factors is, I feel, the high speed lines on runway 6 for runway 12L are poorly marked and displaced at a greater distance from the runway than normal. Also, flashing lights on either side of runway would have made the high speed position more obvious.

Title: RWY INCURSION AT STL, MO. HOLD SHORT MARKINGS ARE QUESTIONED.

Narrative: AFTER HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 12R ON RWY 6 AT STL, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 12R WITHOUT DELAY. AFTER XING, CAPT WAS DISTR BY DEP ACFT (AN ACFT TAXIING ON TXWY C NEXT TO US). AFTER I POINTED OUT HOLD SHORT SIGNS THAT WE WERE RAPIDLY APCHING, HE STOPPED THE ACFT WITH APPROX 5-10 FT OF ACFT PAST HIS LINE. TWR THEN INSTRUCTED US TO CROSS RWY 12L AND MAKE 180 DEG TURN AND HOLD SHORT, WHICH WE DID. WE WERE THEN INSTRUCTED TO CALL ON GND BACK AT DTW. ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IS, I FEEL, THE HIGH SPD LINES ON RWY 6 FOR RWY 12L ARE POORLY MARKED AND DISPLACED AT A GREATER DISTANCE FROM THE RWY THAN NORMAL. ALSO, FLASHING LIGHTS ON EITHER SIDE OF RWY WOULD HAVE MADE THE HIGH SPD POS MORE OBVIOUS.
