Narrative:
Regarding this particular flight. It was a through-flight from san diego with continuing service to denver. No agent, as far as I was aware, came onboard in san jose to count the through passenger. The through passenger who were not onboard should have been called in the boarding area during the boarding process. I'm not sure if this was done thoroughly since, I wasn't out there. Anyway, the incident took place with the agent and the passenger at the gate in sjc, after we had pushed back from the gate. During our taxi to the takeoff area, the captain received a call directing us back to the gate so that the passenger's bags could be taken off the plane, since he claimed one possibly had a bomb in it. Suggestion: an agent should come onboard to count through-passenger, compare with name list and call through-passenger names in boarding area who are not already onboard.
