Narrative:
On oct/sun/00, I received an IFR clearance from the danbury (dxr) ground controller at approximately XA40Z. The clearance was from dxr to mmu with a departure time of XB00 local XB00Z. The tower cleared me for takeoff and I followed the clearance, which was a climb to 3000 ft, and a left turn direct to the carmel VOR 116.6. After climbing through 1500 ft I asked the tower if they wanted me over to departure control on 126.4. The tower responded, 'frequency change approved.' I thought that this was unusual terminology for an IFR departure. I changed frequency to 126.4 and called new york departure declaring that we were climbing to 3000 ft direct to carmel. The departure controller challenged me asking why I was on this frequency. I responded that I was checking in as required. He asked me in an angry tone 'where did you get the clearance.' I responded from TRACON. I then corrected myself and advised him that I received it from the danbury ground controller. The controller then told me to call the TRACON facility when I got on the ground. I told him that I would do so. He then cleared me to climb to 4000 ft and proceed direct to sparta VOR. I was given a frequency change to 120.55 and worked another controller. She asked me to verify that I was on V188. No I responded I was cleared direct to sparta. Another controller came on who might have been the supervisor. This controller asked me again where I got the clearance. I responded from the danbury ground controller. He responded, 'we're just checking.' at XB38Z the controller advised me that they checked with the danbury tower. They had made a mistake and did not advise the TRACON of my release. I was then instructed that I didn't have to call the facility and they were sorry for the situation.

Title: APCH CTLR QUESTIONED PLT OF AN SEL SMA REGARDING WHO GAVE HIM HIS IFR CLRNC SINCE THE FREQ AND RTE WERE NOT EXPECTED BY THEM. HE INFORMED THAT IT WAS THE TWR GND CTLR.
Narrative: ON OCT/SUN/00, I RECEIVED AN IFR CLRNC FROM THE DANBURY (DXR) GND CTLR AT APPROX XA40Z. THE CLRNC WAS FROM DXR TO MMU WITH A DEP TIME OF XB00 LCL XB00Z. THE TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF AND I FOLLOWED THE CLRNC, WHICH WAS A CLB TO 3000 FT, AND A L TURN DIRECT TO THE CARMEL VOR 116.6. AFTER CLBING THROUGH 1500 FT I ASKED THE TWR IF THEY WANTED ME OVER TO DEP CTL ON 126.4. THE TWR RESPONDED, 'FREQ CHANGE APPROVED.' I THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS UNUSUAL TERMINOLOGY FOR AN IFR DEP. I CHANGED FREQ TO 126.4 AND CALLED NEW YORK DEP DECLARING THAT WE WERE CLBING TO 3000 FT DIRECT TO CARMEL. THE DEP CTLR CHALLENGED ME ASKING WHY I WAS ON THIS FREQ. I RESPONDED THAT I WAS CHKING IN AS REQUIRED. HE ASKED ME IN AN ANGRY TONE 'WHERE DID YOU GET THE CLRNC.' I RESPONDED FROM TRACON. I THEN CORRECTED MYSELF AND ADVISED HIM THAT I RECEIVED IT FROM THE DANBURY GND CTLR. THE CTLR THEN TOLD ME TO CALL THE TRACON FACILITY WHEN I GOT ON THE GND. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD DO SO. HE THEN CLRED ME TO CLB TO 4000 FT AND PROCEED DIRECT TO SPARTA VOR. I WAS GIVEN A FREQ CHANGE TO 120.55 AND WORKED ANOTHER CTLR. SHE ASKED ME TO VERIFY THAT I WAS ON V188. NO I RESPONDED I WAS CLRED DIRECT TO SPARTA. ANOTHER CTLR CAME ON WHO MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE SUPVR. THIS CTLR ASKED ME AGAIN WHERE I GOT THE CLRNC. I RESPONDED FROM THE DANBURY GND CTLR. HE RESPONDED, 'WE'RE JUST CHKING.' AT XB38Z THE CTLR ADVISED ME THAT THEY CHKED WITH THE DANBURY TWR. THEY HAD MADE A MISTAKE AND DID NOT ADVISE THE TRACON OF MY RELEASE. I WAS THEN INSTRUCTED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO CALL THE FACILITY AND THEY WERE SORRY FOR THE SIT.
