Narrative:

On sep/xa/00, I aborted a takeoff on runway 22R at bos. We were cleared for takeoff on runway 22R. I increased the power and we started the takeoff roll. As we reached approximately 40-50 KTS, the first officer called out a smoke detector warning light had illuminated. I immediately retarded the power and aborted the takeoff. We informed the tower and once clear of the runway we answered several questions from the tower such as aircraft number and the nature of the abort. We asked for a place to sort things out. We could not duplicate the problem. The first officer went back to inspect the cargo compartment and found no evidence of any problems. After several more mins, I felt confident that the flight could be safely completed. The warning light extinguished itself 1-2 seconds after it had illuminated. Experience had told me that this was an isolated incident and I believe that safety was not placed in jeopardy.

Title: AN F27 ON TKOF ROLL ABORTED AT APPROX 40-50 KTS DUE TO A CARGO COMPARTMENT OVERHEAT WARNING CAUSED BY A FALSE WARNING.

Narrative: ON SEP/XA/00, I ABORTED A TKOF ON RWY 22R AT BOS. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 22R. I INCREASED THE PWR AND WE STARTED THE TKOF ROLL. AS WE REACHED APPROX 40-50 KTS, THE FO CALLED OUT A SMOKE DETECTOR WARNING LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. I IMMEDIATELY RETARDED THE PWR AND ABORTED THE TKOF. WE INFORMED THE TWR AND ONCE CLR OF THE RWY WE ANSWERED SEVERAL QUESTIONS FROM THE TWR SUCH AS ACFT NUMBER AND THE NATURE OF THE ABORT. WE ASKED FOR A PLACE TO SORT THINGS OUT. WE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROB. THE FO WENT BACK TO INSPECT THE CARGO COMPARTMENT AND FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ANY PROBS. AFTER SEVERAL MORE MINS, I FELT CONFIDENT THAT THE FLT COULD BE SAFELY COMPLETED. THE WARNING LIGHT EXTINGUISHED ITSELF 1-2 SECONDS AFTER IT HAD ILLUMINATED. EXPERIENCE HAD TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND I BELIEVE THAT SAFETY WAS NOT PLACED IN JEOPARDY.
