Narrative:

After landing on runway 35 at mco, exited the runway at taxiway H2. Being unfamaliar with the new terminal layout, we requested assistance from ground control to locate the assigned gate. While focusing attention on locating gate at the terminal directly ahead of aircraft, inadvertently continued to taxi beyond the end of taxiway H2. Stopped aircraft with main wheels on taxiway and nosewheel on safety over-run area. While all wheels remained on concrete at all times, I felt further maneuvering of the aircraft safely could not be assured. Requested assistance from ground control operations and passengers were then deplaned via portable airstairs, and transported to terminal uneventfully. I believe that a 'no apron' sign, or similar marking at the end of taxiway H2 would be beneficial, as not only does the taxiway appear to lead to the terminal apron, but also a drainage ditch is located between the taxiway and the terminal.

Title: TXWY EXCURSION AT MCO AT NIGHT BY A FIRST TIME ARRIVING CREW. SUGGESTION IS OFFERED FOR IMPROVED SIGNAGE WHERE TXWY APPEARS TO, BUT DOES NOT GO TO THE RAMP.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 35 AT MCO, EXITED THE RWY AT TXWY H2. BEING UNFAMALIAR WITH THE NEW TERMINAL LAYOUT, WE REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM GND CTL TO LOCATE THE ASSIGNED GATE. WHILE FOCUSING ATTN ON LOCATING GATE AT THE TERMINAL DIRECTLY AHEAD OF ACFT, INADVERTENTLY CONTINUED TO TAXI BEYOND THE END OF TXWY H2. STOPPED ACFT WITH MAIN WHEELS ON TXWY AND NOSEWHEEL ON SAFETY OVER-RUN AREA. WHILE ALL WHEELS REMAINED ON CONCRETE AT ALL TIMES, I FELT FURTHER MANEUVERING OF THE ACFT SAFELY COULD NOT BE ASSURED. REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM GND CTL OPS AND PAXS WERE THEN DEPLANED VIA PORTABLE AIRSTAIRS, AND TRANSPORTED TO TERMINAL UNEVENTFULLY. I BELIEVE THAT A 'NO APRON' SIGN, OR SIMILAR MARKING AT THE END OF TXWY H2 WOULD BE BENEFICIAL, AS NOT ONLY DOES THE TXWY APPEAR TO LEAD TO THE TERMINAL APRON, BUT ALSO A DRAINAGE DITCH IS LOCATED BTWN THE TXWY AND THE TERMINAL.
