Narrative:
Air carrier #1, CRJ1, inbound to mco over leese. Air carrier #2, CRJ1, inbound to mco over bairn. Aircraft kept asking if the last transmission was for them. It's hard enough when 2 different airlines use similar sounding calls, but when the airline schedules it that way they must be held responsible for this unsafe operation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter advised that coordination has been effected to facility management through the air traffic southern regional office concerning problems associated with air carrier similar call signs. The air carrier is reviewing a recommendation of changing call signs to help reduce frequency confusion with other company aircraft. The reporter advised that he is aware of similar discussions being conducted by FAA controller work groups with airline companies to reduce or address problems associated with similar sounding a/north's.

Title: MCO CTLR CONCERNED WITH ACR COMPANY UTILIZING SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGNS AND MULTIPLE ACR READBACK QUESTIONS.
Narrative: ACR #1, CRJ1, INBOUND TO MCO OVER LEESE. ACR #2, CRJ1, INBOUND TO MCO OVER BAIRN. ACFT KEPT ASKING IF THE LAST XMISSION WAS FOR THEM. IT'S HARD ENOUGH WHEN 2 DIFFERENT AIRLINES USE SIMILAR SOUNDING CALLS, BUT WHEN THE AIRLINE SCHEDULES IT THAT WAY THEY MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS UNSAFE OP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR ADVISED THAT COORD HAS BEEN EFFECTED TO FACILITY MGMNT THROUGH THE AIR TFC SOUTHERN REGIONAL OFFICE CONCERNING PROBS ASSOCIATED WITH ACR SIMILAR CALL SIGNS. THE ACR IS REVIEWING A RECOMMENDATION OF CHANGING CALL SIGNS TO HELP REDUCE FREQ CONFUSION WITH OTHER COMPANY ACFT. THE RPTR ADVISED THAT HE IS AWARE OF SIMILAR DISCUSSIONS BEING CONDUCTED BY FAA CTLR WORK GROUPS WITH AIRLINE COMPANIES TO REDUCE OR ADDRESS PROBS ASSOCIATED WITH SIMILAR SOUNDING A/N'S.
