Narrative:
After departure from mke we were cleared to 6000 ft. I got distraction because the first officer and I were discussing our out and off times. I flew past my altitude by 400 ft to 6400 ft MSL. After realizing, I immediately recovered and began a descent back to 6000 ft. During the recovery, approach cleared me to maintain 10000 ft. This situation could've been prevented if the first officer discussed the times with me during cruise flight. The issue was something that required immediate attention.
