Narrative:
5 mins prior to pushback at gate in sat noticed a fire extinguishing bottle 'agent low #1' light illuminated on the fire control panel. Contacted maintenance, bottle removed. Upon removal it was determined that it was empty (either a leak, or somebody had fired the bottle, or erroneous message and squibb fired the bottle). Facts: we took aircraft xyz into aus the previous night where the aircraft routine overnight layover. Same aircraft for flight XXX aus-sat-slc on oct/fri/00. During preflight in aus preflight checks appeared to be normal (ie, fire test, annunciator lights). During preflight noticed several switches out of normal position (not in position we left aircraft previous night) most notable was both engine hydraulic pumps off and APU fire control switch was in off and agent arm! Reconfigured switch as per checklist.

DURING PREFLT IN AUS PREFLT CHKS APPEARED TO BE NORMAL (IE, FIRE TEST, ANNUNCIATOR LIGHTS). DURING PREFLT NOTICED SEVERAL SWITCHES OUT OF NORMAL POS (NOT IN POS WE LEFT ACFT PREVIOUS NIGHT) MOST NOTABLE WAS BOTH ENG HYD PUMPS OFF AND APU FIRE CTL SWITCH WAS IN OFF AND AGENT ARM!
