Narrative:

While beginning the robrt FMS transition we experienced an erratic left engine. The QRH led us to do a precautionary shutdown of the left engine. An emergency was declared with dulles approach and the flight ended without incident or accident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that maintenance findings and corrective action on logbook maintenance write-ups by the flight crew are not reported to the crews. The reporter said the maintenance group is very closed mouth about the corrective maintenance actions. The reporter said the cause of the erratic operation of #1 engine is unknown.

THE RPTR SAID THE MAINT GROUP IS VERY CLOSED MOUTH ABOUT THE CORRECTIVE MAINT ACTIONS. THE RPTR SAID THE CAUSE OF THE ERRATIC OP OF #1 ENG IS UNKNOWN.
