Narrative:
ATC claims that we were cleared to a taxiway, not a runway. We taxied onto a runway and were told to clear runway which we did and then we were cleared for takeoff. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: crew was flying an S76 helicopter. Reporter states that there is a problem with one particular bdr ground controller phraseology. The clearance they wre given was 'taxi onto runway 29 via taxiway east.' other ground controllers give 'taxi to runway 29 via taxiway east, hold short of runway 29.' in a discussion with the tower supervisor, he said this had happened before.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: S76 CREW HAD RWY INCURSION ON RWY 29 AT BDR.
Narrative: ATC CLAIMS THAT WE WERE CLRED TO A TXWY, NOT A RWY. WE TAXIED ONTO A RWY AND WERE TOLD TO CLR RWY WHICH WE DID AND THEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CREW WAS FLYING AN S76 HELI. RPTR STATES THAT THERE IS A PROB WITH ONE PARTICULAR BDR GND CTLR PHRASEOLOGY. THE CLRNC THEY WRE GIVEN WAS 'TAXI ONTO RWY 29 VIA TXWY E.' OTHER GND CTLRS GIVE 'TAXI TO RWY 29 VIA TXWY E, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 29.' IN A DISCUSSION WITH THE TWR SUPVR, HE SAID THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE.
