Narrative:
After takeoff at lga, approximately 400 ft AGL, 3-5 large birds ingested into #1 engine. Multiple compressor stalls with excessive egt, power reduced immediately. Large plume of flames observed by passenger and flight attendants out of #1 tailpipe. Emergency declared to lga tower. Diverted to jfk due to longer runway for overweight landing. #1 engine would run only at approximately 3/4 power or below. Elected to keep engine running parameters normal at reduced thrust. Flaps 15 degree landing conducted at jfk. Sink rate low for overweight landing. All appropriate checklists and procedures accomplished. Substantial damage to #1 engine.

Title: A B737-200 ON TKOF AT 400 FT AGL DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO LOSS OF PWR IN #1 ENG CAUSED BY BIRD INGESTION.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF AT LGA, APPROX 400 FT AGL, 3-5 LARGE BIRDS INGESTED INTO #1 ENG. MULTIPLE COMPRESSOR STALLS WITH EXCESSIVE EGT, PWR REDUCED IMMEDIATELY. LARGE PLUME OF FLAMES OBSERVED BY PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS OUT OF #1 TAILPIPE. EMER DECLARED TO LGA TWR.
