Narrative:
I was flying right closed traffic at emt airport. The active runway was runway 19. The WX was effectively unlimited visibility. It was a busy day but not as busy as many sundays. I had completed my first touch-and-go and I was turning crosswind to downwind approximately 3/4 mi southwest of the airport. Just as I had completed my turn from crosswind to downwind, I was passed by a C152 from upper left to lower right. I was approximately 800 ft AGL and estimate ground speed to be about 75 KTS. Prior to my turn from crosswind to downwind, I lifted my left wing to look for traffic from the west and southwest. I think the other aircraft was close and in my blind spot behind the left wing. The conflicting aircraft is a well-known trainer aircraft at the field. I had been monitoring the tower frequency and had not heard this aircraft make a position report or report that he was entering the pattern.

Title: NMAC IN TFC PATTERN AT EL MONTE, CA.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING R CLOSED TFC AT EMT ARPT. THE ACTIVE RWY WAS RWY 19. THE WX WAS EFFECTIVELY UNLIMITED VISIBILITY. IT WAS A BUSY DAY BUT NOT AS BUSY AS MANY SUNDAYS. I HAD COMPLETED MY FIRST TOUCH-AND-GO AND I WAS TURNING XWIND TO DOWNWIND APPROX 3/4 MI SW OF THE ARPT. JUST AS I HAD COMPLETED MY TURN FROM XWIND TO DOWNWIND, I WAS PASSED BY A C152 FROM UPPER L TO LOWER R. I WAS APPROX 800 FT AGL AND ESTIMATE GND SPD TO BE ABOUT 75 KTS. PRIOR TO MY TURN FROM XWIND TO DOWNWIND, I LIFTED MY L WING TO LOOK FOR TFC FROM THE W AND SW. I THINK THE OTHER ACFT WAS CLOSE AND IN MY BLIND SPOT BEHIND THE L WING. THE CONFLICTING ACFT IS A WELL-KNOWN TRAINER ACFT AT THE FIELD. I HAD BEEN MONITORING THE TWR FREQ AND HAD NOT HEARD THIS ACFT MAKE A POS RPT OR RPT THAT HE WAS ENTERING THE PATTERN.
