Narrative:

Trying to go around a line of thunderstorms over the gulf of mexico, we had to deviate beyond the 162 mi limit from land. The aircraft was overwater equipped, but myself and my first officer were domestic crews. The line was solid to approximately 200 mi south of lev VOR. At the start of the deviation, the line was worse to the north and we were unable to climb over the line.
